In my first piece writing for Dual Muse Magazine, I want to shine a spotlight on an album that deserves more attention as Wind Walkers move forward into a new era of their career.

Wind Walkers have been around for quite some time, releasing a wide range of music since 2015.

They were fresh off losing their vocalist and a lengthy hiatus when something truly special happened as they set out to create their 2023 album, What If I Break?

This record delivers across the board, featuring strong lyrical themes, melodies that pop into your head, and top notch production that elevates every track.

In many ways, the album feels cut from the same cloth as another scene defining release.

I have always been a big fan of 2018’s Beautiful Death, the Jonny Craig led album by Slaves. It marked the band’s final release with Craig before rebranding as Rain City Drive and moving forward with Matt McAndrew at the helm.

Beautiful Death
showcased Craig’s standout vocals alongside tasteful genre bending from the band. At the time, some fans viewed this experimentation as a departure from the rawness of 2015’s Routine Breathing. However, in the years since its release, Beautiful Death in a lot of ways became an industry standard.

This brings me back to Wind Walkers and their 2023 release, What If I Break?

The album captures much of what made Beautiful Death great. There is a clear willingness to experiment and blend genres, paired with crisp production that already feels timeless despite being only a few years old, and vocals that shine brightly on top of it all.

Trevor Borg steps in as lead vocalist, replacing Corey Prokowiew following controversial social media posts that led to his departure from the band.

With a new vocalist in place, Wind Walkers chose to explore a new direction. While their earlier work leaned much heavier, traces of their roots remain present throughout this album, creating a balance between evolution and identity.

Standout Songs

It would be easy to list every track here, but for new listeners, songs like “Bodybag” and “Dead Talk”  are a great entry point that show listeners what this band is capable of and why they should be given a chance to become your new favorite band.

Final Thoughts

I fully believe this album will be viewed as an all time classic within the next ten years, and if you happen to be a fan of the bands mentioned above, this is the album for you.

The future looks incredibly bright for Wind Walkers, and better days are ahead for a band that has faced challenges and fought very hard to get where they are now.
