They Gave Me Something To Talk about.
And for the final Soundbyte of the year, it feels most fitting to have my final earworm of the year written about. Back within the curse of growing attached to musicians who are not stateside, I’ve been continually looping Castlecomer’s entire discography but most specifically Fire Alarm.
The beginning of which originally confused me as a Drug Church track - this is a compliment - when it came on the radio. When I then realized it wasn’t, thinking instead it was Bowman of Bad Suns. Plot twist folks, It’s neither, they’re the Australian love child of both groups by some weird instance. It has the high energy guitar lines that I obsess over, lyrically it’s a fun indie-esque-love song, and truly? It’s been looped so many times I’m afraid to look at my last fm collage for this week. “We’re too young to make it out/ Let’s give them something to talk about” (Guys, come on!)
I cannot implore you more to give this one a spin - if you’re a lover of Bad Suns (who are coming to Jannus this upcoming January!), Grand Lotus, or Modest Mouse? You’ll adore this group as much as I do.
Lots of love, happy new years.
